With the conversion and restoration of this historic building, the family-owned company is strengthening its presence in the German capital. The former Empress Augusta Hospital has been turned into a KARL STORZ Group location that offers offices as well as a modern visitor, training and conference centre in a central location (Berlin Mitte) spanning 8,000 m². The STORZ MEDICAL shock wave devices will be presented to the visitors in a practice-oriented atmosphere and will be used intensively in all future Berlin »hands-on« workshops or training seminars. In this way, the product world of KARL STORZ and STORZ MEDICAL is presented in an atmosphere that is steeped in history. Simultaneously, customers and interested parties can benefit from a high-quality venue for medical conferences.

The historic charm of the building, which was built in 1868, was preserved during the two-year conversion and skilfully enhanced with contemporary elements. The building has been used in many different ways over the centuries. Most recently, the orthopaedic department of the Charité University Hospital was located there. Names like Rudolf Virchow, Robert Koch, Paul Ehrlich and Ferdinand Sauerbruch stand for the great history of Berlin's Charité University Hospital, where 8 Nobel Prize winners in medicine began their careers. Then as now, medicine and its use for the benefit of patients are at the centre of the building's use. In this way the KARL STORZ Group not only preserves medical history, but also helps lead it into the future.
